Arsenal target and RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana will reportedly be available for €40m (£35m) fee next year, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The 27-year-old joined the Ligue 1 outfit back in 2020 from Udinese for a fee of around £10m. The midfielder has enjoyed a productive start to this campaign at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, scoring two goals and registering as many assists in 12 league appearances.

Mikel Arteta has hinted during the post-match press conference after yesterday’s defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion that the north London club would be looking to reinforce their squad and could make a move if the opportunity arrives this January.

Meanwhile, it is an open secret that the Spanish boss is keen on strengthening his engine room and the Emirates outfit have already been linked with several players ahead of the winter window.

A report emerged last summer that Arsenal were interested in signing Fofana after they opted not to make a move for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.

Fofana to Arsenal

Writing on CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano has now stated that Fofana is one of the targets for Arsenal, while fellow Premier League club Liverpool are also lining up a move for him.

The journalist further claims that the Ivorian has recently hired a new agent to help secure a move in 2023, with a fee of around £35m [€40m] expected to be enough to force Lens into a sale.

Romano said:

“There’s been some speculation in recent days linking Seko Fofana as a target for Arsenal and Liverpool. Seko Fofana has new agent now and he’s obviously working to find solutions for 2023. At the moment it is still early, nothing advanced; but he can be an opportunity not just for Premier League clubs, also in other leagues. His price tag could be around €40m.”

Arsenal appear to be eyeing a holding midfielder in January due to the fact that they made a last-ditch attempt to sign Douglas Luiz – who is a deep-lying playmaker by trait – on deadline day last summer before the Brazilian opted to sign a long-term contract with the Villans after the summer window slammed shut.

Fofana could be a very good acquisition for Arsenal. The Gunners need more options in the middle of the park and the Ivory Coast international might turn out to be a very good addition to Arteta’s squad if he were to join the Emirates Stadium, having already showcased his qualities in Ligue 1 over the past few seasons.
