Jamie Carragher has said Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is one of the best managers in the Premier League at the moment along with Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp.

The Spaniard was appointed as the Gunners’ boss back in 2019. Despite winning the FA Cup in his debut campaign, initially, things went downhill for Arteta at the Emirates Stadium.

The north London club finished eighth in the Premier League in back-to-back campaigns, under Arteta’s guidance, before securing fifth place last season, narrowly missing out on a chance to qualify for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, following a productive summer transfer window and making five major acquisitions, Arsenal have started the new campaign on a higher note this term and are currently sitting at the top of the Premier League table with 24 points from nine games.

Speaking on Monday Night Football (via Football Daily), Carragher has named Arteta as one of the best managers in the league at the moment along with Guardiola and Klopp.

The Pundit explains the reason behind his claim and said it’s not because Arsenal are currently at the top of the league, but rather the Spanish manager’s bravery in making big decisions, such as selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The ex-defender also says that as a young manager in his first job, the way Arteta has managed to rebuild the club from a difficult state shows his qualities.

When asked who are the top three managers in the Premier League at the moment, Carragher said:

“I would say [Jurgen] Klopp and Pep [Guardiola]. I think it will be a really sad day when both of those managers leave the Premier League. And the other one, I was going through the leagues, I would say Mikel Arteta.

“For a number of reasons, not just because they’re top of the league now. More the fact that I love managers who are really brave and make big decisions and might be unpopular, but I love a manager to make a decision. I think what he did with (Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang, what he did with investing in all the young players.

“He’s had a bit of criticism at times, he’s a young manager, it’s his first job. But the way they play, what he’s created now at Arsenal, whether they take it to the next level of winning trophies I don’t know. I just like the fact he’s made big decisions.”

Mikel Arteta has been doing an excellent job since joining the club. He initially made some questionable decisions in the transfer market. However, he has learned from his previous mistakes and rectified them quickly.

The club’s hierarchy also deserves plaudits for sticking by the Spaniard during the difficult times and now they are enjoying the benefits of that. Meanwhile, Arteta’s decision of signing young talents with high potential has also turned out to be a masterstroke.

So, following a brilliant start, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal can manage to display consistency throughout the season. The early signs are positive and if they can cope with the demand of this term then the Emirates faithful can dream about achieving success at the end of this campaign.
