Following the conclusion of the game against Manchester United, Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe has reportedly suffered a fresh injury in the post-match warm-down session on Sunday, as per David Ornstein.

The Gunners endured a disappointing defeat against the Red Devils as Mikel Arteta’s side lost the game by 3-1. The 22-year-old was involved in this encounter as a second-half substitute, replacing club captain Martin Odegaard.

Writing on Twitter, David Ornstein has said that Smith Rowe has seemingly sustained a fresh injury in the warm-down session after the game against United. However, The Athletic reporter didn’t mention the exact issue or the severity of the injury.

The journalist further claims that the midfielder ‘looked distressed’ and was pulled out of the session. He went to the dressing room early with the assistant coach Carlos Cuesta, while the rest of the substitutes continued their drills.

Ornstein said:

“Emile Smith Rowe appeared to pull up with an injury during Arsenal warm-down. 22yo attacking midfielder looked distressed as he was accompanied back to dressing room by #AFC assistant coach Carlos Cuesta, while rest of substitutes continued their session”

Fresh injury to Smith Rowe

It is disappointing to see that Smith Rowe has suffered yet another injury having only just returned from a groin issue that he sustained during pre-season. So, the Emirates faithful will be hoping that this won’t be a long-term issue for the Hale End graduate.

The injury counts are increasing for the Gunners in recent weeks. Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey remain on the sidelines while Oleksandr Zinchenko has only just returned from a knock. With Smith Rowe now also set for the sidelines, the injuries are mouting at just the wrong time. We’ll have to wait for the official confirmation from the club before knowing the severity of the issue, but it’s another blow.

Arsenal will have to play twice every week from now on. And having failed to add more bodies to their midfield department in the summer transfer window, they are currently left with only Lokonga, Xhaka and Odegaard in their squad to play in the middle of the park.

However, the good news for Mikel Arteta’s side is that summer signing Fabio Vieira has finally made his debut for Arsenal after recovering from his ankle injury. The Portuguese was introduced as the second-half substitute against the Red Devils and his availability will be a big boost for the Spanish boss’ side.
