Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is Arsenal’s priority target to bolster their midfield department according to a report by Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old joined the Foxes back in January 2019 on an initial loan deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco before securing his permanent switch to the King Power Stadium in the following summer for a fee of around £40m as per Transfermarkt.

The Belgian made 160 appearances since joining the East Midlands club, scoring 18 goals and registering 19 assists during this period. The midfielder was an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ side that won the F.A Cup title and the Community Shield in 2021.

Tielemans to Arsenal

Speaking on the Que Gonzalo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has stated that Youri Tielemans has always been at the top of Arsenal’s list to strengthen their midfield. However, the Gunners haven’t tabled any official bid yet in order to sign the highly-rated midfielder this summer. The Gunners are currently focusing on outgoings before switching their attention to new additions.

The journalist further claims that alongside adding more depth in their midfield, Arsenal are also looking to bolster the flanks in the remaining final few days of this transfer window.

Romano said:

“The midfielder, it has always been Tielemans at the top of the list for Arsenal, but still no official bid to Leicester. I’m told Arsenal are still focused on outgoings.

“The roles they have been following are a midfielder and a winger, but it depends, Arsenal have a very good strategy.”

I think Tielemans – who is valued at just under £50m by Transfermarkt – would be a great acquisition for Arsenal. The 25-year-old is technically gifted, can play threading passes between the lines and also has an eye for long-range passing. He can be deployed as the deep-lying midfielder as well as the box-to-box role.

So, his versatility would help Arteta in rotating his squad and the midfielder’s calmness with possession would be a great asset for Arsenal if they can manage to finalize a deal for the Belgium international before the end of this transfer window.

Meanwhile, after winning the first two games against Crystal Palace and Leicester City, Arsenal have started the new Premier League campaign brilliantly and are currently sitting second, just behind the champions Manchester City on goal difference.

Therefore, the early signs are positive for Mikel Arteta’s side and they will have to keep hold of their form and consistency throughout this season in order to show the world that they can challenge for the big prizes once again in near future.

Adding more strength to their squad will certainly help Arsenal in order to go head-to-head against the teams like Liverpool and Manchester City for big honours.
