Arsenal eyeing swoop for Bundesliga CB as Mislintat lines-up summer targets
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are eyeing a summer swoop for Mainz centre-back Abdou Diallo as Sven Mislintat draws-up a list of summer transfer targets.
With the club beginning their search for Arsene Wenger’s replacement, the newspaper says the incoming manager will have a budget of just £50m to spend on reshaping the squad.
We’ve spent heavily revamping the attack with over £100m splashed on Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang while the likes of Granit Xhaka and Shkodran Mustafi have also arrived in big-money deals in recent years.
The lack of Champions League football this season and increased contracts for the likes of Mesut Ozil means funds are tight at the Emirates so the new manager is going to have to work with a strict budget.
Mislintat has been tasked with coming up with possible targets and our head of recruitment is focussing his attention on the centre-back and central midfield positions.
The Telegraph claim that we could renew our interest in Jonny Evans as he’ll have a £3m release clause once West Brom’s relegation is confirmed but Diallo has now emerged as a key target.
The 21-year-old has been in excellent form since joining Mainz from Monaco last summer and Mislintat obviously knows the Bundesliga market well from his time at Borussia Dortmund.
Diallo is predominantly a centre-back but he’s also capable of playing at left-back or even as a defensive midfielder so his versatility will be a useful asset if we decided to sign him this summer.
The youngster has represented France at several youth levels up to U21 and is tipped to push for the senior squad if he continues to develop over the coming years.
No doubt the club will continue to monitor potential targets over the coming weeks and will discuss them with a new manager when he’s confirmed but it seems Diallo will be among the names put forward by Mislintat.
