Arsenal attacker is star man after being named in Premier League Team of the Week
Arsenal attacker Danny Welbeck has been named in the WhoScored? Premier League Team of the Week after his two-goal performance against Stoke yesterday.
Welbeck has endured a difficult campaign that’s been hampered by injury and form issues but he produced arguably his best performance of the season at the Emirates on Sunday.
After Southampton opened the scoring in the 17th minute thanks to some woeful defending, Welbeck played a key role in drawing us level as his superb flick found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the Gabon international poked home for 1-1.
Welbeck then put us ahead with a deflected effort from the edge of the area before the 27-year-old headed home at the far post to secure all three points in the 81st minute after Southampton had pulled it back to 2-2.
Danny has now been named in the WhoScored? Team of the Week after earning a score of 8.8 – which is the highest individual score of any player this weekend so Welbeck is the Premier League ‘Star Man’.
It was a welcome return to form for Welbeck as we’ll be without Henrikh Mkhitaryan for at least the next three games due to a knee injury so we need an in-form Welbeck to fill-in.
Danny will hope to keep his place in the starting eleven against CSKA Moscow on Thursday night when we head to Russia looking to secure our place in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
