[Player Ratings] Arsenal 4-1 CSKA: Ramsey excellent but Ozil was unplayable

By on April 5, 2018

Arsenal have taken control of our Europa League quarter final after beating CSKA Moscow 4-1 in the first leg at the Emirates this evening.

Aaron Ramsey scored twice – including a spectacular acrobatic volley – while Alexandre Lacazette also grabbed a brace with Aleksandr Golovin curling home a superb free-kick for the visitors.

No doubt Ramsey will take the headlines for his superb goal but it was Mesut Ozil who ran the show tonight.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  6/10 | Couldn’t get a near a world class free-kick but was otherwise relatively quiet.

Bellerin  7/10 | Assisted Ramsey for the opener and was always a threat down the right.

Mustafi  5/10 | Poor defending led to their away goal and was given a tough time by Musa in the first half.

Koscielny  5.5/10 | A little unfortunate to give away the free-kick for their goal as he did get the ball but stupid nonetheless.

Monreal  6/10 | Another solid outing from the reliable Spaniard. Not as involved as Bellerin but didn’t put a foot wrong.

Xhaka  6.5/10 | Awful attempted clearance in the build-up to their goal but was otherwise solid enough. Went about his business quietly.

Ramsey  9/10 | Lovely finish to open the scoring but his second was world class. Denied hit hat-trick after hitting the post in the second half but was excellent from start to finish.

Wilshere  5/10 | Not Jack’s night. Everything he tried didn’t come off and he couldn’t really influence the game before being replaced in the second half.

Ozil  9.5/10 | Unplayable at times. Completely ran the show. Won the penalty and superb assist to tee-up Ramsey for his flick-volley. Also assisted Lacazette for his second goal and created numerous chances. World class performance.

Mkhitaryan  7/10 | Involved in some fine interplay but was overshadowed by his team mates. Limped off with a knee injury in the second half.

Lacazette  8/10 | Scored his second consecutive penalty before firing home a well-placed finish. Missed a decent chance to grab his hat-trick but was busy all night during an excellent display.

Subs:

Iwobi  5/10 | Fluffed a great chance to score when he stupidly opted to pass.

Elneny  5/10 | A willing player but limited.

Welbeck  5/10 | Almost grabbed a late goal but saw his close-range effort well saved.

So we’re in control of the quarter finals and it will take a huge f**k-up in Russia next week to prevent us reaching the semi-finals of the competition. Next up, Southampton at home on Sunday…

Bonaroca:- There is no doubt Arsenal played a very good first Half, but a
    disappointing second half.
My question is this:- Who is responsible for this is it the players or is
Manager, who was sitting most of the game sitting down in the second half
the do what others do motivating their players.
My point is this. Arsenal are fighting to be able to play Euro competition,
I have to admit the Russians have a good team and on there Home Ground I
am not so sure about a positive result.
My point is this, they might have weakness in their defence which Arsenal
could exploit, but they have two fast wingers who could play havoc with
Wengers system of having his two backs from time to time used as wingers,
which in turn leaves a gap if not immediately closed by the midfielders.
I hope the advantage of 3 goals is enough “I Keep my fingers crossed” and
some Scotch to keep me”SANE” while watching the match.
