French international wants to join Arsenal to play alongside Aubameyang
According to reports in Spain via the Daily Star, Ousmane Dembele wants to join Arsenal to play alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after growing frustrated with life at Barcelona.
Dembele emerged as one of the hottest talents in Europe during his time with Borussia Dortmund before making a £94m move to the Nou Camp just last summer.
However, the 20-year-old’s time in Catalonia hasn’t gone according to plan as he’s endured an injury plagued campaign that saw him miss the first half of the season with a hamstring problem.
Dembele has managed to make just 13 appearances so far this season and has struggled to hold down a regular first team place in Ernesto Valverde’s side since returning to full fitness.
It’s led to speculation the French international is becoming unsettled in Spain and Dembele has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in the papers recently.
The Daily Star are now citing a report from Don Balon that claims Dembele has asked Arsenal chiefs to try and sign him this summer as he wants to be reunited with Aubameyang in north London.
The pair enjoyed a close relationship during their time together at Dortmund and it seems Dembele is desperate to play alongside the Gabon international at the Emirates next season.
I’ve said all year that we lack width in the squad and Dembele would help solve that problem as he can play on either wing and he’s got huge potential so I think he’d be an excellent signing if we could pull it off.
However, it remains to be seen whether Barca are ready to sell and even if they were they’d no doubt want to recoup most, if not all, of the money they paid Dortmund less than 12 months ago.
Therefore, we’d have to smash our transfer record to land the talented attacker and I’m not convinced Arsenal would pay anywhere near £90m-£100m for Dembele, so I’m not getting too excited about these reports just yet.
