Julian Alvarez named as perfect signing for Arsenal

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has claimed that Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez would be a perfect acquisition for his old club.

After being impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ goal-scoring prowess for Sporting CP, the Gunners decided to purchase him last summer to address their striker problems.

Although the Swedish international helped his side win the Premier League title last term, he displayed inconsistent performances. As a result, he has lost his place in the starting line-up to Kai Havertz this season.

Gabriel Jesus was another No.9 option the North London club had last campaign. However, despite letting him join Barcelona in the recently concluded summer window, Arsenal decided not to sign a new striker to replace him. Meaning Mikel Arteta has fewer striker options this term than he had last season.

Now, during a recent interview (via Metro), Petit states that Alvarez is a ‘talented’ player and has great movement; moreover, he possesses great technical skills. So, he would be a perfect fit for Arsenal, especially given that he knows the Premier League, having previously enjoyed great success with Manchester City.

Moreover, the former midfielder said that he likes everything about the Argentine international, but the biggest problem for Arsenal is that he is keen on joining Barcelona.

Alvarez to Arsenal

Petit said:

“Julian Alvarez is the striker Arsenal need. Why? Because he knows the Premier League. He’s such a talented player. He has great movement, great technical skills, and he would perfectly fit the DNA of this Arsenal team in how he plays one touch football.

“I really like everything about him as a player. But obviously he wants Barcelona, and if he didn’t leave Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, do you really think he’s going to leave that club during the winter transfer window? I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”

Alvarez’s future was the main subject of speculation this summer, with Arsenal reportedly prepared to purchase him if his move to Barcelona failed to materialise. However, Atletico Madrid ultimately managed to keep hold of him.

Alvarez is valued at around £103m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2030. So, Los Rojiblancos aren’t in any rush to sell him next year.

The 26-year-old has showcased his goalscoring prowess at the Estadio Metropolitano in recent years. He also displayed glimpses of his quality against Liverpool in the Champions League in midweek, providing the assist for Atletico Madrid’s goal.

Alvarez is one of the best forwards in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services in January or next summer.
