[Player Ratings] Man City 3-1 Arsenal: Sanchez woeful, Ozil not much better

By on November 5, 2017

A controversial third goal killed the game as Arsenal slumped to a frustrating 3-1 defeat to Manchester City this afternoon.

After City opened the scoring midway through the first half, they were gifted a penalty shortly after the break when Monreal was adjudged to have fouled Sterling. Aguero scored for 2-0.

We reduced the deficit to 2-1 with a fine Lacazette finish but our momentum was killed after the officials failed to stop David Silva standing a yard offside. He set-up Gabriel for 3-1 in the 74th minute and it was game over.

Here are my ratings:

Cech  7/10 | Superb save to deny Gabriel at 2-1 and made a few other decent stops. Nowhere near the penalty once again though.

Bellerin  7/10 | A threat when we went forward but was caught out a few times at the other end.

Monreal  6/10 | Given a tough time by a dangerous City attack. A little unlucky with the penalty but should still not have barged into Sterling.

Koscielny  6.5/10 | Should have done more to clear the ball and then block De Bruyne’s effort for the opener but made some important interceptions.

Kolasinac  6/10 | Gave away possession and failed to get back for their third ‘goal’ and struggled at times against Sterling.

Coquelin  6/10 | Shocking decision to start him at centre-back. Wasn’t our worst player by any means but stupid experiment by Wenger. Replaced once we went 2-0 down.

Xhaka  5.5/10 | Overrun in the middle of the park at times and couldn’t control the game as he likes to do.

Ramsey  5.5/10 | Not really involved until he almost equalised on the stroke of half time and set-up Lacazette for his goal. However, overall it was a poor display from Ramsey as we were ripped open in midfield once again.

Ozil  5/10 | Anonymous for most of the game and couldn’t have any real affect in the final third. Frustrated near the end and lucky not to be sent off.

Iwobi  5/10 | Offered very little once again. He does work hard but I just don’t understand why Wenger keeps persisting with him in the big games.

Sanchez  4/10 | Abysmal in the first half as he gave the ball away countless times and wasn’t much better after the break. His mind was clearly on playing for the opposition. Shocking performance.

Subs:

Lacazette  7/10 | One chance, one goal. Should have started.

Wilshere, Giroud N/A | On after we went 3-1 down and the game was dead.

We weren’t at our best and City could have scored more but we were right in the game at 2-1 and the fact is our hopes were dashed by a shocking mistake from the officials. Even the penalty was soft.

Another big game ruined by poor officiating and once again the decisions went against us. Let’s hope they go our way against Tottenham after the international break…
