Wenger reveals major injury boost as star man returns to training
Arsene Wenger has revealed a major injury boost with the news that Alexis Sanchez is already on his way back to full fitness after returning to training on Friday.
Sanchez was ruled out of our Premier League opener against Leicester City on Friday night after picking up an abdominal injury in training last weekend.
The Chilean international watched from the stands at the Emirates as we twice came from behind to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory thanks to late goals from Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey.
Wenger suggested at his press conference on Thursday that Alexis was also likely to miss next weekend’s trip to Stoke City as he thought the injury would keep him out for at least two weeks.
However, it looks like Alexis could be set for a swift return to action as the boss has revealed the 28-year-old returned to training on Friday and got a good session under his belt.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
“He practised well [on Friday], had a good session for the first time because he had a little muscular strain. He is focused and happy in the dressing room because we won the game.”
Hopefully Sanchez can now train fully over the next week to put himself in contention for a starting spot against Stoke at the Britannia Stadium next Saturday evening.
His return will come as a big boost as we’re going to need a fully-fit Sanchez if we’re going to mount a title challenge this season. However, perhaps the return of Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi will be even more important as our defence was woeful on Friday night.
