Arsenal make contact to sign Dani Olmo from Barcelona

By on June 11, 2026

Arsenal have made contact with Barcelona over a deal to sign Dani Olmo this summer, according to Fichajes.

Olmo’s footballing journey began at Barcelona’s celebrated La Masia academy, where he progressed through the ranks to the U16 level before switching to Dinamo Zagreb’s academy setup in 2014.

It was in Croatia where he truly established his reputation. During his time with the 26-time Croatian champions, Olmo amassed 62 goal contributions, won the club’s Player of the Year award twice, and played a key role in a period of sustained success that included five Croatian league titles and three Croatian Cups.

Those performances attracted widespread attention, with Leipzig ultimately winning the battle for his signature in 2020. Another fruitful chapter followed in Germany, where he added two DFB-Pokal winners’ medals to his collection.

The 28-year-old completed his return to Barcelona in the summer of 2028 and, much like at every previous club, has been part of a trophy-laden environment ever since. In the recently concluded campaign, he provided 18 goal contributions in all competitions as the Catalan giants clinched LaLiga and the Supercopa de España.

Such outstanding performance will inevitably draw keen interest, and it’s no surprise. Fichajes claims that Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Olmo this summer.

‘Perfect fit’

After a successful season, the Gunners are looking to further reinforce their squad and believe Olmo fits the profile of a player who can provide creativity, vision, and one-on-one ability to Mikel Arteta’s squad next season, according to the report.

It appears Arsenal are already acting swiftly to secure the deal as the Spanish outlet adds that the north London club have made initial contact with Barcelona over the Spaniard’s potential transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

In a boost to the Gunners, Fichajes reports that the Catalan giants are open to Olmo’s departure this summer for a fee around £60m, with Chelsea also showing interest.

At present, Mikel Arteta has Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze as his primary attacking midfield options, while Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri have also been deployed in the role when required.

Even so, there remains a strong expectation that Arsenal will recruit another attacking midfielder this summer, particularly amid ongoing speculation surrounding Ødegaard’s future and the possibility of the Norwegian departing the club.

Should he depart, Olmo would be a good option to bring much-needed firepower up front for Arteta as he looks to sustain his team’s dominance heading into next season.
