Trio recalled in 3-4-3: My Arsenal starting XI vs Tottenham
Arsenal desperately need a win this weekend, not only to give our hopes of finishing in the top four a major boost but also to derail Tottenham’s title bid, when we head to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
This is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with….
Goalkeeper: Cech
Cech produced a superb save to deny Mahrez while it was still 0-0 against Leicester on Wednesday night while he also made a couple of good stops against Man City last time out, so it’s good to see him in form heading to the Lane. Ospina is back in training but no question Cech should start in goal.
Defence: Gabriel, Koscielny, Holding
Koscielny is a doubt for the game after picking up a knee injury against the Foxes in midweek. Wenger has rated him as having a 60% chance of being passed fit but let’s pray he is available as it would be a huge blow if he was ruled out.
I hope Holding was rested on Wednesday as he didn’t deserve to be dropped following two excellent performances so he should be recalled this weekend. Gabriel has been outstanding recently so the Brazilian should also keep his place with Mustafi still two weeks away from fitness.
Midfield: Bellerin, Xhaka, The Ox, Monreal
Oxlade-Chamberlain wasn’t risked against Leicester due to a minor foot problem so he should get a recall on Sunday and I’d like to see him alongside Xhaka in midfield. We seem to forget how good he was in a central role a few weeks back so I’d pick him ahead of Ramsey.
That would allow Bellerin to continue on the right and I still believe he’s the long-term occupant of the wing-back role if we stick with the 3-4-3 formation. Gibbs didn’t really take his chance in midweek so we can’t argue if Monreal starts on the left.
Attack: Ozil, Sanchez, Welbeck
Welbeck was left out again in midweek and I can only hope he was being saved for the Spurs game. Sanchez through the middle didn’t work at all against Leicester so hopefully he’ll be moved out wide again and Welbeck starting up top as Giroud has offered virtually nothing in this new formation.
Walcott was ineffective in midweek so he doesn’t deserve to keep his place but this is a big opportunity for Ozil to produce a big performance in a huge game.
This would be my line-up:
