Arsenal eye move to sign Real Madrid’s Alvaro Carreras

By on June 19, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Real Madrid defender Alvaro Carreras, as per a recent report.

The 23-year-old started his youth career at Racing Ferrol before progressing through Deportivo La Coruña’s youth system. He then joined Los Blancos’ famed La Fábrica academy in 2017, before moving to Man Utd a few years later.

However, he struggled to break into the Red Devils’ first team; as a result, he went out on loan several occasions to play regularly and develop his career.

Carreras joined SL Benfica permanently in 2024. After being impressed by his performances in the Primeira Liga, Los Blancos decided to bring him back last summer. However, he endured a difficult debut campaign at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.

Following Real Madrid’s decision to purchase Marc Cucurella, speculation surrounding Carreras’s future has started emerging in recent times.

As per a recent report (via Caught Offside), Arsenal are interested in him, but they will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal, as Chelsea and Man Utd are also in this race.

Although the 23-year-old’s existing deal is set to run until 2031, Real Madrid would be open to cashing-in on him should they receive a proposal worth around £43m.

Carreras to Arsenal

The report state that Xabi Alonso bought Carreras at Real Madrid, and he could play a key role in helping Chelsea win the race by defeating the English rivals.

Carreras, standing at 6ft 1in tall, is a technically gifted left-footed left-back. He is comfortable playing out from the back and efficient in defensive contributions.

Although he displayed below-average performances for Real Madrid last term, he is a highly talented player and has plenty of time on his side to turn the situation around. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, having already got Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapié, and Myles Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal don’t need to invest more to add further depth to this position unless anyone leaves.

Instead, they would be better off saving the funds to upgrade the left flank and centre-forward positions. Moreover, Arsenal could even do with purchasing a new midfielder.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a move to sign Carreras.
