Arsenal confirm Perez & Mustafi’s new shirt numbers
Arsenal have confirmed this afternoon what shirt numbers Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi will wear this season after completing their moves to the club on Tuesday.
Perez completed his move from Deportivo La Coruna after we triggered his £17m buyout clause last week and the Spanish striker will now wear the ‘cursed’ No.9 shirt.
Several strikers have struggled to fill the No.9 jersey in recent years but fingers crossed Perez is the man to break the curse and hopefully we see him banging in the goals this campaign.
Mustafi also wrapped-up his £35m move to the Emirates from Valencia on Tuesday night and the German international defender has chosen the No.20 shirt – which was vacated by Mathieu Flamini this summer.
I expect big things from Mustafi and would have preferred to see him wearing a lower number but Mertesacker, Gabriel and Koscielny wear 4, 5 and 6 so he was never going to get a main squad number.
