Arsenal set to table £33m striker bid – report

According to L’Equipe via the Mirror, Arsenal are set to table an improved £33m bid to Lyon for striker Alexandre Lacazette after seeing our opening £29.3m offer rejected.

Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to bring in a new striker this summer to offer competition to Olivier Giroud and we’ve already failed to lure Jamie Vardy away from Leicester City.

Lacazette has emerged as the most likely target in recent weeks and Lyon revealed earlier this week that they’d rejected a £29.3m offer from Arsenal for the French international.

The Ligue 1 club insisted that Lacazette wasn’t for sale, however, the Mirror reported yesterday that this was nothing more than a negotiating tactic and Lyon have already informed Arsenal the asking price is £40m.

It looks like Wenger is now ready to go back in with an improved offer and while he won’t meet the supposed £40m valuation, the Mirror are citing a report from L’Equipe that says we’ll test their resolve with a fresh £33m bid.

We’ll have to wait and see how Lyon respond to our offer but I suspect they may hold out for more. President Jean-Michael Aulas is a tough negotiator and he’s not Wenger’s biggest fan so I don’t think they’ll be doing us any favours.

However, I have a feeling we’ll get a deal done in the end. Wenger has no choice but to sign a top class striker this summer as not only do we desperately need one, but he’d face a huge backlash from the fans if he failed to bring someone else in this summer.

We’ve been waiting for a new striker to be signed for years and with the new season just two weeks away, we need to get this deal done asap – especially given that Giroud is expected to miss the opener against Liverpool.

Lacazette scored 23 goals last season and 31 the season before so he clearly knows where the goals is and while the pacey forward isn’t world class just yet, I think he would be a solid addition to the squad.

Let’s see how things go but hopefully there will be plenty of movement in the transfer market over the coming days.

    Hope so and hope they accept it this time. I hope Lacazette also tells Lyon he’s leaving but more importantly we must get Mustafi. Its a must or someone even better.
