Would Samuel Chukwueze Still Be a Good Fit for Arsenal?

Samuel Chukwueze

After this year’s stunning Champions League campaign, Arsenal need to make the right deals in the summer to strengthen and challenge on all fronts again next term. They were interested in the Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze in the past, with reports suggesting they tried to sign him last December.

The question is, would he still be a good fit for the Gunners? The 25-year-old has struggled for minutes this season at AC Milan, but there are still several Premier League clubs who believe the attacker could improve their ranks.

Chukwueze Would Add Depth on the Wings

A major reason why Arsenal allowed Liverpool to run away with it at the top of the table this season was down to their lack of depth on the wings. Bukayo Saka is easily one of the best attackers in the league now, and when he’s out of the side, it leaves a gaping hole. Indeed, the Gunners have been over-reliant on the England forward, and it’s clear that he needs others to share the workload.

Mikel Arteta has been desperate to sign a ready-made player who can naturally rotate with Saka, and he identified Chukwueze as the ideal option. The pacey Nigerian has drawn some comparisons to Saka, and also loves to cut inside on his favoured left foot to strike on goal. Though Chukwueze would be unlikely to start when Saka’s fit, there’s a good chance that he’d get a lot of game time to provide the Englishman with some relief in the latter stages of matches.

Arsenal Need More Firepower to Challenge for Title

Although Arsenal have turned into firm title challengers for the last few seasons, they have continuously fallen short. In the 2024-25 campaign, they started as one of the favourites to lift the Premier League, but the best betting site in Nigeria had Liverpool at odds-on to win the trophy with five games left in the season. This highlighted how Arsenal were barely in contention in the final furlong.

A lot of this has to do with a lack of depth, which is why Arsenal need to be clever with recruitment in the summer. Liverpool have a few solid rotation options on the wings, and the Gunners should replicate this. Ethan Nwaneri has shown some flashes of brilliance, but the player is arguably still too raw to provide regular relief for Saka.

Which Other Clubs are Interested in Chukwueze?

Although Chukwueze would be an excellent addition for Arsenal as support for Saka, the Emirates may not be the best move for the player. Indeed, the reason why this transfer hasn’t happened yet could be because the player doesn’t want to play second fiddle.

The Nigerian has attracted interest from other top-flight sides, so he may be weighing up his options. Aston Villa and Fulham have both shown interest, and they remain potential moves for the player.

Chukwueze would still be a good fit for Arsenal, as there’s no doubt that the Gunners need to add more depth on the wings. However, there are plenty of other tricky attackers that Arteta could be interested in adding as well.
