Arsenal agree terms with Higuain, 5-year deal worth £7.6m-a-season

By on July 12, 2016

According to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli, Arsenal have now agreed personal terms with Gonzalo Higuain worth around £7.6m-per-season over a five-year deal but we still need to agree a fee with Napoli.

Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to sign another striker this summer after missing out on Jamie Vardy and Higuain is one of several names who’ve been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.

Italian outlet Calciomercato reported earlier today that Wenger was willing to offer the Serie A outfit £42.6m plus Olivier Giroud in exchange for Higuain’s signature this summer.

It looks like there have been further developments as journalist Giulianelli – who works for Gazatta dello Sport – has taken to Twitter to suggest that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with the strikers agent and brother, Nicolas Higuain, that would see the 28-year-old earn around £7.6m (€9m) per season over a five-year deal.

However, Giulianelli goes on to say that while Arsenal’s official bid has yet to be put on the table to Napoli, the Italians are expected to reject our proposed player-swap deal and demand a cash deal worth £66.5m (€78m) including bonuses.

Here is what he said on Twitter:

All the noise over the Higuain ‘deal’ seems to be coming from Italy so it’s difficult to know whether these reports are genuine or Higuain’s brother is using our name to leak information to the media to try and generate interest in the striker.

I personally hope we are making a proper attempt to sign the Argentinean international as he’d be an excellent signing for the club but I would hate to see us use Giroud as any make-weight, so I’m relived that Giulianelli feels Napoli would reject such an offer.

The idea this summer is that we ADD to our strike-force. To bring in a top class striker to compliment and support Giroud, not replace him in the squad, as that would still leave us with just one proper striker next season [with Welbeck injured].

However, I’m not getting my hopes us too much over Higuain as I don’t think Arsene will pay what Napoli are demanding. Over £60m is a crazy amount for a player who’ll turn 29 in December, has two years left on his deal and has already confirmed he won’t be signing an extension.

So unless they lower their demands, I think we’ll need to keep looking in our search for a striker….

Come on have you learnt nothing yet,Giroud is Wengers love child no matter how slow and cumbersome he becomes he will still play Giroud up front and he told us all that Giroud would be first starter for the season,do anyone really believe that Gonzalo is gonna accept being a second choice striker at Arsenal, gimme a break that is the most laughable of all laughable statements i have heard during the summer and 70 mil for a 28 year old another thing that would be forever out of character with wenger who always wants resale value.

Wenger and Arsenal Board should hasten up if they really want to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli. Serious minded clubs in EPL may soon come calling for his signature after Wenger have identified the good buys in the summer transfer market. The much-talked about Ricardo Rodriguez by Gunners is already finding way again to one of the premier league big 4 and this is not helping the emotions of Arsenal fans. The board must realize that without the great support of fans, Arsenal stand to lose the bearing of an enviable football club in Europe. Time is not on the side of Arsene Wenger and we are looking at a situation where he will later come to tell us that there are no more world class strikers in the market. Go and secured the much-awaited signatures of Gonzalo Higuain and Richardo Rodriguez now to enable us look forward to fine campaign in the 2016/2017 season.

What, Jugbenu? Is one month and a half not enough time for any Manager to do all the deals he seeks? I think it is too much time, so just relax and don’t get your knickers in a twist when the window has only just really opened.

I have learnt to ignore the “unconfirmed” transfer rumours and wait for official information from the club or manager. Arsenal was never in for Ricardo Rodriguez; all the talk was from his own people.
