Arsenal Suffer Major Injury Blow As Attacker Undergoes Surgery
As predictable as night follows day, Arsenal have suffered a huge injury blow with Danny Welbeck ruled out for ‘a period of months’ following knee surgery.
Danny hasn’t featured for the club since picking up what was initially thought to be a minor knee problem back in late April.
The injury proved difficult to shift and he not only missed the remainder of last season, but the 24-year-old failed to take part in any of our pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.
Arsene Wenger revealed at his press conference last week that he hoped Welbeck would be fit to resume full training next week after the international break.
However, it looks like his knee injury has flared up after he increased his workload in training and Arsenal have now confirmed that the decision was made to operate on the left knee.
A statement on Arsenal.com this afternoon said:
Danny Welbeck undergone surgery on his left knee after being unable to sufficiently step up his rehabilitation work.
The striker has been working throughout the summer to recover from the injury sustained at the end of April.
It had been hoped he would avoid surgery but after increasing his training workload, the injury to his cartilage did not respond as well as hoped and the decision was taken last week for him to undergo surgery by a leading specialist in the field.
Danny is now expected to be out for a period of months and everyone at Arsenal wishes him well.
What a devastating blow, for Danny and Arsenal Football Club, but it’s another damming indictment against our medical team. Only we could have a player pick up a minor knock, ‘rest’ him for four months and then be forced to operate ruling him out for another extended period of time.
We were meant to have solved our injury woes but this is a joke. We really do have some serious issues in the medical department.
We also have problems at management level. The club have confirmed the decision to operate was taken LAST WEEK, so Arsene knew Welbeck would be unavailable for months but still chose not to buy a striker. WTF?!
A bad week for Arsenal just got a lot worse and now we’re stuck with limited options up front for the foreseeable future. Who knows how long Welbeck will be out but I’d be surprised if we see him again before the turn of the year.
Which will be just in time for Arsene to say he’s ‘like a new signing’, giving him the perfect excuse not to buy another forward in January.
Let’s hope no other forwards get injured over the coming months or we’re in serious trouble…..

Was he named in our Champions League squad? Yet another brilliant decision from our £8m per annum manager. Imagine what kind of manager we could get if we paid top dollar.
