Wenger Gives Injury Update On Arteta, Sanogo & Wilshere
Arsene Wenger has given an update on the fitness of Mikel Arteta and Yaya Sanogo after the duo were forced off during our win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
Arteta was having a fine game in the middle of the park but was replaced by Mathieu Flamini midway through the second half after pulling up with a calf problem.
Speaking to the press after the game, unfortunately Arsene Wenger confirmed the injury ‘doesn’t look good’ and he expects the Spaniard to be ‘out for a while’.
Sanogo made a rare start up front and opened the scoring with a cool finish in the third minute but was forced off with a hamstring problem with 10 minutes remaining.
Arsene didn’t reveal how long he thinks the youngster will be out for, but he praised his performance against the Germans.
The final update was on Jack Wilshere. Reports claim he’s facing surgery and will be out for between 3-4 months but Arsene says we won’t know if thats the case until he sees a specialist on Thursday.
Here’s what the boss said:
‘That doesn’t look good, it’s a calf. I think Arteta will be out for a while.’
‘It’s difficult to take on the chin at moment, you go in to many games and need everyone available.’
Boss: "The injury situation is an issue. @m8arteta's looks quite serious and we lost @Yayasanogoal22 too" #AFCvBOR

It’s a big blow to lose Arteta again as he’s a major upgrade on Mathieu Flamini, but with Wilshere also out for the foreseeable future it looks like the Frenchman will be starting regularly alongside Aaron Ramsey over the next few weeks.
We’ll have to wait for more news on Wilshere on Thursday but fingers crossed it’s not as bad as being reported. To lose him for up to four months would be devastating.
