Arsenal Closing In On Midfielder After Formal Talks On Thursday
Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Adrien Rabiot following formal talks in Monaco on Thursday, according to reports in France.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a defensive-minded midfielder who can also fill in at centre-back when required and Rabiot has emerged as a key target in recent weeks.
The 19-year-old is almost certain to leave Paris Saint-Germain after turning down a new contract and he’s refused to train this week in order to try and force through a move away from the club.
Get French Football News claim that Arsenal are now firmly in the driving seat to secure his signature after holding formal talks with PSG chiefs after the Champions League draw in Monaco yesterday.
Roma are also in the running and L’Equipe claim that the Italians have agreed a €15m fee with PSG for the midfielder.
However, while we are yet to agree a fee, it’s understood that Arsene’s excellent relationship with PSG’s Nasser Al Khelaifi means we are considered as the firm favourties and a deal should be done over the coming days.
Reports have also suggested that Arsene has personally called Rabiot to convince him to move to the Emirates, and we all know how persuasive the Frenchman can be.
So it looks like Rabiot is the most likely transfer to go through during the closing stages of the window, and while he may not be the ‘world class’, established player some fans are crying out for, he is certainly a huge talent who has the the potential to go on and become one of the best holding midfielders in Europe.
If we can’t come to an agreement for the likes of William Carvalho, then Rabiot would be an excellent addition. Let’s see what the next few days bring….
