Arsenal have reached an agreement on personal terms to sign Morgan Rogers on a contract until 2031, according to Nicolo Schira.
Since completing his move from Middlesbrough to Aston Villa on deadline day in the winter window of 2024, Rogers has established himself as a major force in the Premier League and is now valued highly by Transfermarkt at £77m.
The attacking midfielder recorded four goal contributions during his opening six months at Villa Park before producing a remarkable breakthrough campaign, finishing with 14 goals and 16 assists in all competitions. His 19 league goal involvements were enough to secure the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
Throughout last season, he remained one of Unai Emery’s most influential figures, amassing 26 goal contributions across all competitions while playing a key role in Villa’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League and their UEFA Europa League triumph.
Arsenal have made Rogers their ‘priority target’ for this summer, although he is also attracting significant attention from several other clubs.
It appears the club have trumped their rivals, as Nicolo Schira reports that Arsenal have reached an ”agreement in principle” with Rogers over personal terms for a contract until 2031.
Rogers to Arsenal
The Gunners are also acting proactively to agree to a deal with his club, with the Italian journalist adding that the Premier League champions are set to initiate club-to-club talks with Villa to formalise his move to north London this summer.
The England international’s on-ball and off-ball qualities suggest he’s an archetypal player to thrive under Mikel Arteta’s system.
He accumulated 3,285 Premier League minutes during the campaign, a figure greater than that recorded by any Arsenal outfield player, including ever-present midfielder Declan Rice.
His work rate without the ball was outstanding last season, as he regained possession 139 times in the league and came out on top in 132 top-flight ground contests, with only Bukayo Saka surpassing that figure among Arsenal players, after winning 145.
Rogers’ attacking output also compares favourably with Saka’s, with Rogers finishing fourth in the Premier League for open-play assists, an area in which the Gunners often fell short.
Given that Arteta favours goal-threatening versatile forwards, it is easy to see why the manager would be attracted to a player who offers a similar profile on the opposite flank.
