Arsenal ‘hopeful’ Declan Rice can convince Morgan Rogers to join

By on June 23, 2026

Arsenal are set to step up their efforts to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa this summer, according to The Daily Mail.

Rogers has fully justified the expectation and excitement that followed his progression through Manchester City’s academy system.

His potential first became clearly visible during his time at Middlesbrough, where he registered 16 direct goal contributions, and that progression has only accelerated following his move to Villa Park, taking his overall tally to 60 goal involvements, with 26 of those coming in the current campaign alone.

Throughout last season, Rogers has been one of Unai Emery’s most important performers, helping the Villains secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League while also winning the UEFA Europa League.

In recent weeks, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Rogers, who is also of keen interest to other clubs.

The club are now looking to act swiftly, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Premier League champions are set to step up their efforts in signing the 23-year-old.

‘Priority target’

The report adds that Rogers is seen as the ‘priority’ option among Arsenal’s transfer targets for this summer and is considered an ‘upgrade’ by Mikel Arteta due to the versatility he would add to his attack.

Following keen interest from other clubs, including Chelsea, the Gunners are hopeful the club’s England contingent, headed by Declan Rice, can help convince their compatriot, who is also open to offers from the club. The Daily Mail adds

While Villa are insistent on retaining Rogers, there’s an expectation that the Europa League winners could enter negotiations with offers around £85m amid Arsenal’s interest, according to the report.

Arteta has Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze as his main attacking midfield options, with Kai Havertz also having featured in that position at times.

Even so, there is still an expectation that another attacking midfielder will be brought in during the summer window, particularly amid ongoing speculation over a possible departure for Ødegaard.

If the Norwegian were to leave the club, Rogers would represent a strong replacement option, offering Arteta a range of tactical solutions thanks to his versatility and ability to operate across multiple positions.
