Arsenal ‘continuing talks’ to sign Atletico’s Julian Alvarez

By on June 25, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly ‘continuing talks’ over a deal to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.

Although the 26-year-old enjoyed a successful time with Manchester City, he decided to leave to play regularly, as he mainly featured as a deputy to Erling Haaland.

Los Rojiblancos decided to purchase him a couple of years ago, and the South American has showcased his productivity in recent campaigns. After making 37 goal contributions during his debut season, he scored 20 goals and registered nine assists last term.

However, he hasn’t been able to win any major silverware at Estadio Metropolitano. Now, TEAMtalk claim that Alvarez is keen on leaving to take a new challenge in his career and Barcelona is his preferred destination.

The Blaugrana are eager to purchase him, but Atlético Madrid have no intention of letting him join a La Liga rival. Instead, they are open to selling him abroad.

Arsenal are interested in him and are ‘continuing talks’ to finalise the operation. They have even sent a contract proposal to the player, but the offer is less than a proposal submitted from elsewhere.

Paris Saint-Germain are also in this race, with the South American open to joining the Gunners or Les Parisiens if a move to Barcelona eventually falls through.

Alvarez to Arsenal

The report state that Arsenal could offer a swap deal proposal to finalise the operation and are ready to include Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Leandro Trossard. But the Spanish giants are interested in Viktor Gyokeres and Ethan Nwaneri.

Ideally, Arsenal don’t want to part ways with the Swedish international as Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta are huge admirers of him, and they believe he can showcase his best in the Premier League next season.

Alvarez is one of the best forwards in the world and has proven his worth at the highest level for club and country over the years. He is already familiar with the Premier League’s physicality, having previously played for Man City.

So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
