Arsenal tipped to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz
Arsenal could reportedly make a move to sign Como midfielder Nico Paz, as per Football London.
After coming through Real Madrid’s famous academy, La Fabrica, the 21-year-old made his first-team debut in 2023. However, he struggled to break into Los Blancos’ star-studded starting line-up. So, he decided to leave to play regularly and develop his career.
Como bought him a couple of years ago, and he has showcased his qualities in Serie A in recent campaigns. After making 14 goal contributions during his debut season at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, he took his game to another level last term.
In 40 appearances across all competitions, the youngster scored 13 goals and registered seven assists. Moreover, he helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing fourth in the Italian top-flight. After proving his worth in club football, Paz has secured his place in Argentina’s World Cup squad.
Although Real Madrid sold Paz permanently to Como, they had full control over his future as they included sell-on and buyback clauses. Now, Fabrizio Romano states that the Spanish giants have decided to re-sign him by triggering the buyback clause.
However, Football London state that the South American doesn’t want to return to the Spanish capital as he is keen on playing regularly and developing his career. So, Los Blancos are prepared to cash-in on him for a fee of around £52m this summer.
Martin Odegaard has been an undisputed starter in the creative midfield position at the Emirates Stadium over the last few years. However, he displayed inconsistent performances due to fitness problems last term.
Paz to Arsenal
So, the report state that with Odegaard set to enter the final two years of his current contract, Arsenal might be open to cashing-in on him this summer and could make a move for Paz to replace the Norwegian.
Apart from the North London club, other clubs around Europe are also interested in him. On the other hand, Arsenal have also identified Morgan Rogers as a serious target to reinforce the midfield.
Paz is a technically gifted left-footed creative midfielder by trait, but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the right flank if needed. He is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
