Wenger: ‘It Doesn’t Look Good’ – Arsenal Hit By New Injury Blow
Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of Olivier Giroud after the striker picked up an ankle injury during the closing stages of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Everton.
Just minutes after coming off the bench to rescue a point at Goodison Park with a late headed equaliser, Giroud picked up an ankle injury and hobbled from the field at the final whistle.
After the game, the French international was seen leaving the stadium in a protective boot and he’s now a huge doubt to play any part in our Champions League play off second leg against Besiktas.
Arsene Wenger admitted last night that Giroud’s injury ‘doesn’t look good’ but the boss still hopes he won’t be ruled out of the crucial clash on Wednesday night.
“It is a big game and I hope we have not lost him [Giroud],”
“In the final minute he stretched his ankle. At the moment it doesn’t look too good. “
He’s a frustrating player sometimes but there’s no doubt he made a huge difference when he came on against Everton and it will be a big blow if he’s out for any period of time.
I read rumours online last night that he could face up to three months out, but they are unsubstantiated reports right now so we’ll just have to see how things stand in a couple of days.
