Arsenal reach agreement to sign Christos Tzolis
Arsenal have reached an agreement with Club Brugge for the permanent transfer of Christos Tzolis this summer, as per Fabrizio Romano.
The tough task of retaining their Premier League crown after ending their over-two-decade wait awaits Arsenal as they head into next season.
Sporting director Andrea Berta has been active in the ongoing transfer window as he looks to hand Mikel Arteta an even stronger squad heading into the next season in a bid to retain the club’s dominance in domestic and European competitions.
In attack, the left wing has come under much scrutiny for failing to produce a substantial attacking threat or output, compared to Bukayo Saka on the right.
Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and the versatile Noni Madueke were the left wingers last season, but the trio could only account for ten Premier League goals.
Now, following the departure of Trossard to 21-time Turkish champions Beşiktaş, the need for a new left winger has become an even greater necessity, and the club have been exploring several options, including Brugge’s Tzolis.
A deal now appears to be finalised as Fabrizio Romano claims that Arsenal have reached an agreement for the transfer of Tzolis to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Despite earlier reports elsewhere about the deal yet to be finalised, the transfer expert confirms that an agreement has already been sealed for a £33m fee.
Prolific forward
Tzolis was keen on joining the Premier League champions, and Brugge has now granted the 24-year-old permission to travel to his new club for his medical, Romano adds.
Tzolis enjoyed an outstanding individual campaign last season, netting 22 goals and providing 29 assists across all competitions for Brugge.
His tally of 51 goal contributions was only bettered by Bayern Munich duo Harry Kane (68) and Michael Olise (54) among players in all major leagues across Europe.
Since joining Club Brugge, the Greek international has amassed 43 goals and 45 assists in 108 appearances across all competitions and has recorded at least 20 goal involvements over the past three seasons.
Pending official confirmation, he will surpass Brighton and Hove Albion’s Charalampos Kostoulas to become the most expensive Greek player in history.
Tzolis is also on course to break the four-year record set by former AC Milan forward Charles De Ketelaere as the most expensive sale in Belgian Jupiler Pro League history.
