Arsenal preparing an offer to sign Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa
Arsenal are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, as per the Daily Mail.
The Gunners currently have William Saliba and Cristhian Mosquera as options to deploy in the right centre-back position. Moreover, although Mikel Arteta has mainly used Ben White and Jurrien Timber as right-backs, they can provide cover in the CB role if needed.
However, Saliba is set to remain sidelined for several months, having sustained a serious back problem. He is set to undergo surgery to cure the injury and is facing up to 5 months out.
On the other hand, White struggled with fitness problems last season while Timber also had his fair share of injury issues last term.
Now, the Daily Mail claim that Arsenal are considering purchasing a new centre-back this summer following Saliba’s injury and are showing serious interest in Konsa.
They are preparing an offer to finalise the operation, with his existing deal set to run until 2028. Konsa has been open to discussing a fresh term with the Villans and wants to become one of the club’s highest-paid players.
However, an agreement hasn’t been reached yet between the two parties. Aston Villa have been restricted in this transfer window after breaking UEFA’s spending rules. So, they need to sell players to balance the books.
Konsa to Arsenal
Konsa, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, is a right-footed centre-back by trait but can provide cover in the right-back position if needed. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Since moving to Villa Park from Brentford, the 28-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter, helping his side win the Europa League last campaign.
Having proven his worth in club football, Konsa secured his place in England’s World Cup squad. He helped his country reach the semi-final before losing to Argentina.
Konsa is a Premier League proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his services this summer.
