Wenger ‘Rates Winger Highly And Could Buy Him This Summer’
Arsene Wenger is being tipped to make a move to buy highly-rated Belgian winger Zakaria Bakkali, according to reports today.
The 18-year-old has been raising eyebrows with some of his performances for PSV this season and he became the youngest ever player to score a hat-trick in a league match in Holland when he bagged a superb treble against NEC Nijmegen earlier this season (watch the video below).
Understandably he’s been attracting interest and the Metro are carrying quotes from an apparent ‘source’ from inside PSV who claims that Arsene Wenger rates Bakkali highly and is aware of the growing interest in the player, so could buy him this summer.
‘Bakkali is a player that Wenger rates highly,’ said the PSV source
‘Arsenal have kept an eye on him and are aware that other teams want him, so could move in the summer to buy him.’
Bakkali is a pacey winger who clearly has an eye for goal (judging by the video below), and has drawn comparisons to Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez and compatriot Eden Hazard in the past.
He’s certainly a ‘Wenger-type’ of player and looks to have a bright future ahead of him, but with Real Madrid and Benfica also understood to be scouting him on a regular basis, we could face a real fight for his signature.
That’s if our interest is even genuine. The Metro isn’t the most reliable newspaper and the fact they are quoting an unnamed ‘source’ doesn’t fill you with much confidence as to the legitimacy of the report.
I suppose we’ll have to wait and see in the summer whether we have any serious interest in the player or whether this is just paper talk.
