Devastating Injury News As Arsenal Ace Faces Six Months Out

By on August 19, 2013

Some devastating injury news this morning Gooners with several newspapers reporting that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be facing up to six months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Ox enjoyed an encouraging pre-season and this was seen as his breakthrough year by many. He started against Aston Villa on Saturday and was arguably our best player of the first half before an innocuous clash just a minute before the break saw him stretchered from the field with an injury to his left knee.

The Daily Mail and the Mirror claim that initial scans showed he has suffered serious knee ligament damage which would keep him out for around six months.  Further tests are expected today to assess the full extent of the problem but boss Arsene Wenger confirmed after the game that it was a bad injury:

‘He is out, definitely out [for the Fenerbache clash],’ said Wenger.

‘It’s a knee problem. It’s a bad injury.’

If it’s confirmed that Chamberlain is out for any length of time, it’s going to be a real blow. The 20-year-old may not be an important first team player just yet, but with Gervinho gone this was his chance to shine and really try to establish himself.

Obviously the immediate concern is his absence for Wednesday’s vital trip to Turkey but long-term he’s going to be a huge miss and it will also be a massive blow to the lad’s chances of going to the World Cup next summer.

Thankfully we still have time to bring in a replacement, but as we already need to buy a keeper, versatile defender, defensive midfielder and a striker in the next 14 days, I’m not holding my breath that we’ll find the time to sign an attacking midfielder as well.

How much do you think we’ll miss the Ox? Should we buy a replacement? If so, who?

Mertasaker should not be playing as centre back.He has no control of the back line and makes idiotic decisions. Podolski is a good winger. Why he is not introduced earlier in the game is still a mystery. These Owners are stuffing a GREAT team. Aresenal supporter for the past 40 years. GOONER FOR LIFE.
