Arsenal Boosted In Luis Suarez Pursuit As New Details Emerge

By on August 2, 2013

We’ve been boosted in our pursuit of Luis Suarez after it’s emerged that the striker is furious with Liverpool for breaking a verbal agreement allowing him to leave to play in the Champions League this summer and he’s ready to force his move to the Emirates before the transfer window closes.

The Mirror claim Suarez met with boss Brendan Rodgers and MD Ian Ayre back in June where he told the club he wanted to leave this summer. It’s alleged they verbally agreed to sell to any club who has qualified for the Champions League – including Arsenal – but the only team they’d refuse to sell to was Manchester United.

The Uruguayan is believed to have been left stunned when Liverpool then rejected Arsenal’s £40,000,001 offer almost two weeks ago, and the newspaper claims he’s now so angry and frustrated that he’s ready to force his way out of Anfield in order to move to north London.

It’s also understood that, despite reports earlier in the week suggesting otherwise, he’s not ruled out taking legal action against the club if they continue to block his exit because his advisers are adamant the striker should be allowed to leave for Arsenal.

This would possibly explain the impasse and why Arsenal were so confident we’d sign him for just over £40m. Suarez’s advisers would no doubt have briefed Arsenal on this ‘verbal agreement’ and suggested we bid £40,000,001 to activate the ‘clause’ that meant Liverpool had to inform them of any bid over £40m. With Liverpool being forced to tell Suarez’s camp of a serious bid from a team qualified for the Champions League, Suarez could then pursue the move due to the verbal agreement they made in June.

However, it seems as though Liverpool are refusing to hold up their end of the bargain and decided they didn’t want to sell to Arsenal, who they no doubt see as their biggest competition for fourth place next season.

So where does this leave us then? Well if this report is accurate, it tells us Suarez is angry and wants to leave Liverpool, despite Ian Ayre and Brendan Rodgers telling us that he’s ‘happy and understands the clubs position’, but more importantly it also tells us Suarez is prepared to force his way out.

He’s got previous for doing this. He took his case to a Dutch tribunal to force a move from Groningen to Ajax in 2007 and he then went on strike to force a move to Liverpool in 2011, so there’s no reason why he won’t do the same to force his move to Arsenal – especially if Liverpool have broken promises to him.

Of course verbal agreements mean very little if the case went to a Premier League hearing, but the fact Suarez is furious with the club will almost surely mean they’ve got to sell and right now, we’re the only interested party.

No matter how talented he is, no club wants to keep hold of an unhappy player, especially when another club is willing to pay in excess of £40m for him. So I still expect Suarez will be sold, I just hope it’s to us and we don’t get gazumped by Madrid.

Do you think Suarez will end up joining Arsenal? Or will Madrid make a late move?

You hear a lot of Liverpool fans say the same too. By all means have faith in your side and belief that you can achieve things. But too often fans lose all sense of reality and I think the Arsenal board are just stringing you along all over again.

If they bid £55m then fair enough. But thus far the bids have been laughed off. That is the only fact in the whole story. Everything else is paper talk.

If you’re gonna debate things then at least stay in the real world son. And your play on words is pathetic. Are you 12?

I haven’t once mentioned the fact Arsenal has the word ARSE at the start. No need to change any words there.

JD l can understand u defending yr club but please remember when u point out that Notts Forest won the CL twice yr wrong they won the European Cup as u did 4 times when if l remember right it only took u to win 5 games hardly the same competition now is it

I can understand u saying he is an idiot for his play on words but how can u criticize him for not being in the real world when u clearly wish to ignore facts which clearly show in the real world that even if we havent won a trophy in 8 years its been 23 since u could claim to be the best an even when u won the CL in 2005 u werent in it because u were the best an didnt even make the top 4 in the same yr u won it .
As many have said about Chelski how can u claim to be the best in Europe when u aint even the best in yr own country

You think it’s at all possible that the clubs, who apparently have a good working relationship, have already agreed a deal, and Arsenal are maybe giving Liverpool a chance to recruit now before a possible Suarez deal? If LFC had 40 million burning a hole in their pocket, the price of a replacement instantly goes up. Just a thought….

    • JD

      August 2, 2013 at 3:13 pm

While the clubs may have a good working relationship I doubt it stretches that far.

In fact by bidding the 40m + £1 I feel Arsenal have done more damage than good in terms of the relationship between the 2 sides.

      Just a thought…. 😉

Yeah, maybe you’re right. Although that could easily just be clever PR. I just think there’s more going on here than meets the eye.

Frankly, I don’t want Arsenal to sign him; too much baggage and too high a risk. And no disrespect to LFC and their fans, I don’t really consider them a threat to our top four spot next season even with Suarez, there’s better teams in the league (who, incidentally, are also strengthening). Maybe in a couple of seasons, but not now. Still, I could be wrong. It’s happened many times before.

I think you’re on to something. It would be idiotic of Liverpool to hold on to a player who doesn’t want to be there. If they force him to stay he will play crap ths season. N’ah, he’s a goner, or maybe even a gooner 😉

I don’t knw what is wrong with liverpool, the manager and even the so called club owner; they should allow this gentle man leave because he’s not happy there anymore. Mind you, we (Arsenal) are cooking champion league football which you(Liverpool) can’t cook………

      August 2, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Wow, stop treating Champs league qualification as though you’ve won something, an oh you haven’t really qualified yet have you, your merely in the qualification stages. At the end of the day you finish fourth in the league, if thats the sole reason for you to celebrate and thats your clubs only achievements in the last 8yrs then I feel sorry for you, where’s your ambition,,,, LFC will be more worried about Spurs in the pursuit of 4th place or above than your lot.

      • Big Gooner

        August 2, 2013 at 5:29 pm

Think you will find we are more worried about Everton in the race for 4th than we are about Liverpool Merseysides 2nd best team

        • Big Gooner

          August 2, 2013 at 5:33 pm

And celebrating finishing 4th as opposed to finishing 7th an having nothing to celebrate great argument m8

          • goofmental

            August 2, 2013 at 5:55 pm

so all these years you finished 4th what’s it got you in your trophy cabinet, Ian Wright summed up your clubs ambitions nicely and also why Suarez shouldn’t join you, an I quote
“If you look at Arsenal – not won anything in eight years, just challenging for fourth place, not really any players there who will make him say ‘I’m going to play with him and him.”
Amazing how you settle for 4th an think it fills your trophy cabinet, Ask yourself this, how many of your players when they retire will celebrate they qualified for champs league and see it as a major achievement, or do they want to talk about the medals and silverware they have won?? For 8yrs your club has given you nothing to cheer about so little wonder you see being 4th best as the pinnacle of your clubs achievements. To be honest to qualify for champs league as many times as you have an not win it is shambolic and yet hilarious at the same time. Stop trying to smokescreen your own teams inadequacies by trying to pass judgement on LFC. LFC do not have to sell any player to Arsenal.

And stop avoiding the facts by constantly banging on about Arsenals lack of success trophy wise while ignoring that yr club is well behind ours in many ways apart from trophies won in the PAST this Liverpool team is not the Liverpool of the 80’s its a team that isnt even the best team on Merseyside anymore its a team that has not only failed to win the english title in 23 yrs but no longer even challenges for the top 4. Get over yrself, get over yr clubs PAST an get over the fact that yr club isnt anywhere near challenging for anything anymore

Or make me an hypocrite l havent once mentioned Arsenals past as you have constantly mentioned Liverpools the 23years thing was pointing out to yaseen that Arsenal are not the only club to fail to win a competition that they take part in so why not take yr “we won it 5 times” attitude an pop back in Evertons shadow as Merseysides 2nd best team

          • ...

            August 3, 2013 at 10:24 am

I don’t like mentioning the past as an arsenal fan because of the fact we haven’t won anything since 2005. I know liverpool USED to be a great team, but they aren’t anymore they are a club with a great history but not a great current squad. Here’s the facts for you in more recent times: Never won a Premier League Title, Finished 7th last season (12 points behind arsenal), didn’t make the Europa League behind Wigan and Swansea!

I know Gerrard is a legand at Liverpool and was a great player, but when was the last time he won the Premier League Title? The correct answer is never. Liverpool’s aims should be:
            1. Finish above Everton and be the best side in Liverpool
            2. Try and qualify for the Champions League
            3. Bring in Big players with the offer of Champions League
            4. Win the League

That isn’t going to happen for a while, 12 points is a lot of points to make up, and that’s not going to happen in one season even if our squad does remain the same.

Same old summer script, same old idiotic antics at Arsenal! If Arsene Wenger isn’t lying (again) why didn’t he for instance sign Higuain who was available at a lower fee than Suarez? With a lengthy “cannibalism-related” ban, Suarez would only be available for EPL matches in November! Wenger MUST STOP insulting our intelligence. It’s the blind “Wenger-holic fans” who have encouraged the Arsenal Manager to degenerate from a liar, to an idiot and now a DICK-HEAD!

Maybe you should keep up m8 Higuian has stated today that he choose Napoli ahead of us due to advice from friends so maybe that suggests we did all we could to sign him so maybe its not wenger thats the idiot

If you went into a shop and asked for a packet of crisp to be told they were a pound. once you’d thought, yeah sod it, they look nice, they’re worth a quid, i’ll take those please.
Then the shop keeper turns round and says actually, i’ll take 1 pound 80 pence would you still buy the crisps?
Not unless you were a desperate mug!

these idiotic pool fans are really delving into the depths of despair when they constantly go on aboutt past exploits. oh, am i confusing you with these sentences being spelt correctly you silly “BIN DIPPERS”? well, suarez is leaving you full stop. why would he want to stay at a club that constantly lies to it’s own people! and when you talk about idiots, you have the biggest idiot around in rodgers, here’s a man who preaches loyalty to suarez, yet where was his loyalty to swansea hey? where was his loyalty after they offered him a job when watford gave him the boot, only for him to jump ship and leave them in the lurch to go to liverpool. then he did an evven dirtier trick when leaving swansea. he promised them he would’nt go back for any of their players, and the moment he slips through the anfield doors, he goes for allen. and i never heard him say to joe allen show swansea some loyalty, because he’s one hell of a back stabber. oh, another little tit bit for you mightier than thou thicko’s from across the mersey, official figures i’ve seen yesterday saying the richest clubs in the world as follows: 1) real madrid. 2) barca. 3) man utd. 4) arsenal. the clubs with the biggesy fan base. 1) real madrid. 2) barca. 3) man utd. 4) arsenal and just for the record, and you can go and check it for yourselves (if you are capable that is) we have 125 000 000, compared to your gormy lots’ 6th place and 75 000 000. just thought i’d let you know it’s the gooners who are the bigger club….by some considerable distance too. so, when your lot say suarez should go to a bigger club, he will be….ARSENAL. everything about arsenal is better than the pool. we have a bigger better looking stadium, and it’s in london. better training facilities and complex, that’s why england use it to train on when they get together, and it’s in london. we have a better team, and they’re in london. what have you got besides “ferry ‘cross the mersey”? nothing. so, you scousers, behave yourselves, no your place in society, and as in the premier league….it’s way below us!!! sianara chaps.

Liverpool are complete morons if they actually try to hold on to him. All this has to be in hopes of getting more money, from IE Real Madrid.

If they think he will perform well for Liverpool this season they are smoking some good shaite at Anfield.

Suarez should just teach them a lesson and say, “Fine, I’ll run out my contact and leave on a free transfer, but don’t expect me to play well and don’t be surprised if I score a few own goals too”.

The earlier fans began to realize that football is a business the better for them. Trophy is important, bt the most important thing in business is stability. Any club that can build a new stadium in the world today and remain stable both financially and in the field of play is a very big club. Liverpool tried building a stadium, bt failed completely and at a point almost went backrupt. Except Arab oil money enter Liverpool, the downwards trend continue. We dont have trophies bt we have a brand new big stadium which is the envy of most big clubs in the world. Wise people border more about future, foolish people border more about today. Arsenal has stabilized, tanx to all Gunners for patience. We used to spend big b4 the stadium project, we can now spend big again bcos of our financial discipline. Trophies will soon return, and you know how we win it, unbeaten? Yes, Unbeaten!

Why would someone include a clause in their contract (>40mil)only to be “informed” of a bid but not a buy out figure? What perpose does it serve?
I think Saurez should sack his dumb agent for agreeing to that good for nothing clause if it is true. A contract with a clause that serves no personal gain!
He should upset the dressing room by preaching to his fellow players to double check their doggie liverpool contracts!
