Arsenal battling with PL rivals to sign Newcastle’s Miley
Arsenal are reportedly battling with Premier League rivals over a deal to sign Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After parting ways with Thomas Partey and Jorginho, the Gunners decided to revamp the midfield department by purchasing Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard last summer.
Mikel Arteta currently has the duo plus Declan Rice and Mikel Merino as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions. However, Merino has been out injured since January.
On the other hand, Norgaard has failed to find regular game time this season. Zubimendi, meanwhile, enjoyed a stellar start but has displayed inconsistent performances in recent weeks.
As a result, the North London club have seemingly started exploring options to refresh the midfield department once again this summer. A few names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Sandro Tonali being one of them.
However, Fichajes state that Tonali isn’t the only Newcastle midfielder on Arteta’s wishlist, as Miley is on Arsenal’s radar as well, and they could make a concrete approach to secure his service during the offseason.
But purchasing the 19-year-old won’t be straightforward for the Emirates club, as Manchester United and Chelsea are in this race as well. Moreover, Paris Saint-Germain have expressed their interest in signing him.
Miley to Arsenal
The youngster is valued at around £22m by Transfermarkt and still has a contract until 2029. So, the Magpies aren’t in any rush to sell him and want an astronomical fee to let him leave.
Miley, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is a No.8 by trait but can also provide cover in the right-back position if needed. He is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
The Englishman is a talented player and possesses high potential. In 12 Premier League starts this season, he has made five goal contributions this season. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
