New Arsenal boss wants to sign midfield star, £35m agreement in place with club
According to Sky Sports, new Arsenal manager Unai Emery remains keen on signing Jean-Michael Seri – who’s allowed to leave Nice if an offer of at least £35m is put on the table this summer.
We’ve been strongly linked with a move for Seri in recent weeks but any potential swoop was put on hold until the club announced Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
Emery was confirmed as our new head coach on Wednesday and the former Paris Saint-Germain boss is now gearing-up for a huge first summer in north London as we need to make plenty of changes to the squad.
A new central midfielder is a priority as Santi Cazorla has left the club while Jack Wilshere could follow him as he’s out of contract soon and is yet to agree terms over an extension.
Sky Sports claim Seri remains a prime target for Arsenal as Emery is a big fan of the Ivory Coast international’s having tried to sign him while at PSG in January.
A deal couldn’t be completed due to concerns over Financial Fair Play Rules so PSG signed Lassana Diarra on a free transfer instead but it looks like Emery is ready to give the go-ahead to a swoop for the 26-year-old now he’s in charge at Arsenal.
Head of football operations, Raul Sanllehi, is also an admirer of the midfielder as he almost signed Seri during his time at Barcelona last summer and he’s believed to be driving our pursuit of the player.
Sky Sports claim Seri has an agreement in place with Nice that allows him to leave if an offer of at least £35m is put on the table so he’s available at a very reasonable price in today’s market.
However, we aren’t the only club in the running for his signature as several other top Premier League and European clubs have been linked so we face a tough battle to lure Seri to the Emirates this summer.
