Arsenal earmark Bradley Barcola as Morgan Rogers alternative

Bradley Barcola

Arsenal have identified Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola as an alternative target to Morgan Rogers, according to the BBC’s Sami Mokbel.

The Frenchman has been one of France’s blistering attackers, netting a goal and providing an assist in the ongoing FIFA World Cup campaign.

His form for his country comes as no surprise, as he has been one of the most exciting forwards in Europe since coming through the ranks at the Lyon academy before joining PSG in 2023.

He has made 76 goal contributions for the French giants while playing a key role in the club’s trophy-laden success, including three consecutive Ligue 1 titles and back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles.

However, Luis Enrique preferred an attacking trio of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue, with Barcola playing more as an impact player from the bench.

Still, his goal output was on the high side, with 13 goals and seven assists, highlighting his ability to produce even with limited playing time.

Now, according to the BBC’s Sami Mokbel, Arsenal are set to reignite their interest in signing Barcola after receiving assurance the versatile winger could be available this summer.

The report adds that the Gunners’ entourage have been keeping close tabs on the 23-year-old and were present at the New York-New Jersey Stadium on Tuesday to watch him in action.

Rogers’ alternative

While Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has been the Gunners’ leading target, the Villains’ £130m valuation could prove problematic, making the club turn their attention to Barcola as an alternative to the Englishman, the BBC adds.

With a contract at the Parc des Princes until 2028, Barcola, who is also of keen interest to Liverpool, is expected to cost less than Rogers, who still has five years left on his deal with Villa, according to the report.

Barcola averaged 0.53 goals per 90 minutes last season, placing him in the 93rd percentile among Ligue 1 wingers, which is roughly equivalent to scoring once every two matches.

His finishing efficiency is further highlighted by his shooting numbers: 1.54 on-target shots per 90 minutes, ranking him in the 92nd percentile in that category.

The French winger excels in one-v-one situations, regularly stretches opposition backlines and remains a constant threat in transition, traits that would make him an excellent fit for Arteta’s style of play.

Although he isn’t expected to cost less than Rogers, his valuation is still expected to be considerably high and will most likely cost well above his £59m Transfermarkt valuation.
