Arsenal set to launch £50m bid to sign 14-goal attacker
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are set to test Monaco’s resolve with a fresh £50m offer for Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger looks to finally land the talented attacker this summer.
The boss has identified Lemar as one of his prime targets as he looks to build a title-winning squad having already snapped-up left-back Sead Kolasinac and striker Alexandre Lacazette.
So far, Monaco have proven extremely tough to deal with as the Ligue 1 champions are reluctant to see any more of their title-winning squad leave having already been forced to sell several of their key men.
However, the Daily Mail claim Arsenal aren’t giving up hope of signing Lemar and will table an improved £50m offer after Monaco knocked back our last £45m bid for the 21-year-old.
The newspaper says Arsenal chiefs hope that will be enough to finally persuade Monaco to sell and they believe personal terms with the player will be nothing more than a formality.
These latest reports are contrary to what The Sun claimed yesterday as they reported that Arsenal were set to wrap-up a £45m deal and had already agreed personal terms with Lemar.
Who knows which newspaper is more accurate but it seems Arsenal are intent on landing the French international this summer and I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad if we can get it over the line.
The youngster scored 14 goals and set-up a further 17 for his team mates last season to help Monaco win the title and he’s got the potential to develop even further at the Emirates.
My only concern is that Lemar could be viewed as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez but the Daily Mail suggest that Arsenal remain adamant he won’t be sold and haven’t given up hope of him signing a new contract.

If that turns out to be the case and Alexis does stay, then it will be interesting to see where Lemar fits in to our team as he’s predominantly played on the wings at Monaco – although he is capable of playing in a central midfield role if required.
