Video: Arsenal Sign Portuguese Starlet After Agreeing 4-Year Deal

By on August 3, 2015

Arsenal have continued to strengthen their academy after beating Manchester United to the signature of highly-rated goalkeeper Joao Virginia, so claim the Express.

The 15-year-old came through the youth ranks at Benfica but his potential caught the eye of scouts from the Premier League last year.

Virginia had a trial at United a few months back and was expected to complete a permanent move to Old Trafford this summer.

However, it appears Arsenal have hijacked their deal as the Express claim that the teenager has now completed a move to North London.

The newspaper says that Virginia has signed a four-year deal, which will initially be on scholarship terms before he signs a professional deal when he turns 17.

He’s expected to play for the Under-18’s and is the latest youngster to join the club as we continue to overhaul our academy teams this summer.

Donyell Malen also completed his move to Arsenal last week and they pair follow the likes of Jeff Reine-Adelaide [who impressed in the Emirates Cup], Vlad Dragomir and Yassin Fortune in moving to the Emirates in recent months.

Here is a video of Virginia in action – from the clips, he seems like he commands his area extremely well and isn’t shy at coming out of his area to sweep up behind the defence. He looks like a real talent….
