Arsenal interested in signing Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae, as per German football expert Christian Falk.
Following William Saliba’s back problem, the Gunners decided to reinforce the centre-back position by purchasing Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa this summer.
So, Mikel Arteta currently has the Englishman plus Cristhian Mosquera and Gabriel Magalhaes as centre-back options. Moreover, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapié and Riccardo Calafiori can provide cover in this position if needed, although they mainly play as fullbacks.
Now, on the FC Bayern Insider website, Falk reports that following Hincapié’s recent injury, Arsenal are considering signing a new centre-back in January and have expressed their interest in Kim.
Maurizio Micheli discovered the South Korean at Napoli, and he currently works at Arsenal. Therefore, he is planning to bring the 29-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
Kim, valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt, has entered the final two years of his current contract and has mainly featured as a rotational option under Vincent Kompany. Therefore, Bayern Munich would be open to letting him leave if they receive a respectable offer.
Kim is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, and is efficient in defensive contributions.
Kim to Arsenal
Although Kim has played as a rotational option at the Allianz Arena, he has won two Bundesliga titles and a few domestic cup competitions.
He is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. Moreover, he possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League.
Therefore, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth to the centre-back position should they purchase him. However, considering Kim has struggled to flourish in his career at Bayern, there is a question mark over whether he would be the right option for Arsenal to strengthen the backline.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure Kim’s services in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are set to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League this weekend before taking on Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week.
