RATINGS: Player Ratings From Arsenal’s 2-2 Draw With Swansea

By on March 25, 2014

All in all, it was another poor performance. Not Saturday poor, but still well below the required level. We were fortunate to get back to 2-1 after some excellent work from Lukas Podolski, but showed how fragile we are right now by conceding a ridiculous last minute equaliser. Yes it was very unfortunate, but the defending was horrific too.

Here are my ratings:

Szczesny: 6/10 – Didn’t even dive for the first goal, again, but was a little unlucky with the second as the ball ricocheted off his legs onto Flamini and into the empty net.

Sagna: 6/10 – Far too many hopeless crosses into the box with nobody in sight. Given some trouble at the back as well.

Mertesacker: 7/10 – Battled manfully against the powerful Bony.

Vermaelen: 6/10 – Beaten far too easily by Bony for the opening goal and was nowhere to be seen as Britton powered through to force the second.

Gibbs: 7.5/10 – One of our better players. Gave his all and provided a fine assist for Podolski’s goal.

Arteta: 6/10 – The midfield was wide open at times when Swansea hit us on the break. Arteta offered little else than sideways passes to be honest.

Flamini 6/10 – Hmmm. Was he at fault for the last minute own goal? At first I said no, but could he have read the danger better to anticipate the ball might come back off Szczesny? He should have tracked Britton’s run better in any case.

Oxlade-Chamberlain: 6.5/10 – Great early strike to test Vorm and I actually thought he was one of our more dangerous player before he was subbed for Podolski early in the second half.

Cazorla: 6.5/10 – Forced a half decent save from Vorm but was generally in and out the game. Needed to step up but didn’t.

Rosicky: 6.5/10 – Worked hard as always but just had no end product tonight. Too many wasteful final balls.

Giroud: 5.5/10 – Awful, once again, for much of the game but popped up with goal. Fair play but we need much more from him up front. The ball just never stuck to him at all.

Subs:

Podolski: 8/10 – Showed his threat once again. Scored the equaliser from close range then set up the second with a superb cross.

Kallstrom: 7/10 – A very useful cameo from the debutant. He made an astounding 6 interceptions/ball retrievals despite being on the pitch just 10 minutes. Played some neat passes too.

Sanogo: N/A

I’ve just listened to Arsene’s post match interview and he must have been watching a different game to me. He said Swansea only created one shot on goal and said we dominated, but I feel the visitors were as dangerous as us and probably deserved their draw.

The title looks out of reach now and with Everton winning 3-0 at Newcastle, it looks like we’ll be fighting for fourth if we lose against City and at Goodison Park over the next two games.

Ox was terrible. Rosicky is the only player pushing the pace and the only midfielder currently healthy that doesn’t disappear during big games like santi cazorla and giroud

Nobody wants to say it, but Wenger can no longer read the game. His technical deficiencies are continually showing their ugly head. He must bring in either Denis B and Henry now or Fergie’s former right hand man.
