Arsenal Boss Confirms Third Summer Signing
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina is to become Arsenal’s third major summer signing.
Speculation has been rife in recent weeks claiming that we’ve agreed a £3.5m deal with Nice, and that the 25-year-old has agreed a four-year deal worth around £60,000-a-week.
Obviously with all the transfer news flying about, many fans were understandably dubious and refused to believe anything until it had been confirmed by the club.
Well, although nothing is up on Arsenal.com as yet, we’ve had the next best thing with Arsene Wenger himself confirming today that Ospina will come to the club and challenge Wojceich Szczesny for the first team shirt.
The boss did reveal that Szczesny will start the season as No.1, but should Ospina prove he deserves to replace the young Pole, then he’ll have no hesitation in handing him the gloves.
Arsene told reporters:
“You know at the start Szczensy will be the No. 1, then again we’ll be down to performances and, if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,” source: ESPN.
The Colombian is expected to undergo a medical and sign his contract early next week, and is in line to make his debut at the Emirates Cup next weekend.
He follows Alexis Sanchez and Mathieu Debuchy in coming to the club and I think he’ll prove to be an excellent signing. He was superb for Colombia over in Brazil, and with just one-year remaining on his deal at Nice, the French club have been forced to sell him on the cheap.
Another great piece of business by the club, now lets hope we go all-out and bring in a defensive midfielder….
