Arsenal interested in signing Aston Villa’s Konsa

By on July 22, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, as per The Athletic.

Since moving to Villa Park from Brentford, the 28-year-old has been a key starter. However, he has taken his game to another level under Unai Emery’s guidance in recent years.

Konsa is considered one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League and helped his side win the Europa League last campaign. In 48 appearances across all competitions, he scored twice and kept 15 clean sheets.

Having proven his worth in club football, the Aston Villa star has established himself as a key starter in the England national team’s starting line-up. He helped his country finish third in the World Cup 2026.

Now, The Athletic report that Arsenal could intensify their efforts to sign a new centre-back following William Saliba’s recent injury and have identified Konsa as a serious option.

However, with the player’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Aston Villa aren’t in any rush to sell him, and there is a significant gap between Emery’s side and Arsenal’s valuation.

Konsa is a 6ft tall right-footed centre-back by trait but is also comfortable in the right-back position. He previously featured as a RB at times for Aston Villa but has mainly played as a CB under Emery.

However, Thomas Tuchel used Konsa, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, as a right-back for England in the World Cup due to Reece James’ injury problems.

Konsa to Arsenal

Konsa is quick, strong, good in the air, composed in possession, can play threading passes between the lines, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

The 28-year-old is a Premier League-proven player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in this window.

Meanwhile, after letting Leandro Trossard join Turkish giants Besiktas, Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis. However, Mikel Arteta reportedly wants a proven left-winger alongside the Greek and have been linked with a few names.
