Arsenal make contact to sign Mainz star Kaishu Sano
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign 1. FSV Mainz 05 midfielder Kaishu Sano, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to MEWA Arena from Japanese side Kashima Antlers, the 25-year-old has established himself as an undisputed starter.
In 46 appearances across all competitions, Sano made five goal contributions last season. After proving his worth in club football, he secured his place in Japan’s World Cup squad, guiding his country to the last-32 before losing to Brazil.
He even scored an excellent goal against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Now, TEAMtalk claim that Sano’s recent promising performances haven’t gone unnoticed as he has managed to place himself on the radar of several big clubs.
Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on his development and have been in contact with his representatives over a potential swoop, as per the report. Apart from the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Newcastle United have also expressed their interest in him.
Like Arsenal, Spurs and BVB have held talks with the player’s representatives after keeping a close eye on his performances. However, the report state that Liverpool are currently the frontrunners in this race.
With the Japanese international’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Mainz don’t want to let him leave cheaply and want around £51m. Liverpool are even preparing to launch a £51m bid to secure his services.
Sano to Arsenal
Sano is a defensive midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. He is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Following Christian Norgaard’s poor performances last term, the North London club are said to be keen on purchasing a new midfielder in this window.
Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, but Mikel Arteta’s side are seemingly also interested in Sano.
He is a talented player and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, Sano might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his services by defeating other clubs in this race.
