Arsenal ‘remain firmly in the hunt’ for Nico Williams
Arsenal reportedly ‘remain firmly in the hunt’ for Athletic Club forward Nico Williams, as per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners decided to purchase Kepa Arrizabalaga, Cristhian Mosquera, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, and Viktor Gyokeres by spending a huge amount of money last summer.
Moreover, Piero Hincapié joined on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, and the move is expected to be made permanent during this offseason.
After bolstering the squad with eight new faces, Arsenal won the Premier League title last campaign. They even reached the Champions League final before losing to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
This summer, the North London club are reportedly planning to add more firepower to continue their momentum next season.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are ‘actively exploring’ options to upgrade the left flank, and Williams is one of the names ‘most admired’ internally.
Mikel Arteta’s side hold a long-standing interest in the La Liga star as they have been on his trail since 2024. Barcelona were also interested in him, but the player decided to sign a long-term contract at Athletic Club until 2035 last summer.
Still, Arsenal remain ‘firmly in the hunt’ for Williams, and the forward is tempted to play in the Premier League. But he is set to focus on the World Cup over the coming weeks.
Williams to Arsenal
The report state that Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Liverpool, Manchester United, and Manchester City have all been kept informed about his situation.
Williams is a left-winger by trait and is one of the best forwards in La Liga. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and has the ability to create opportunities for fellow attackers.
The Spaniard is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. However, he struggled to showcase his best due to fitness problems last term. So, Arsenal need to be very careful about that before making a potential swoop.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to finally secure his services this summer.
