Arsenal showing ‘genuine’ interest in Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Arsenal are showing ‘genuine’ interest in signing Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers next summer, according to talkSPORT.
Following the completion of his move to Villa from Middlesbrough on the winter deadline day in 2024, Rogers has quickly established himself as a standout performer in the Premier League.
Across his opening six months at Villa Park, the attacking midfielder delivered four goal contributions before going on an exceptional run, finishing the campaign with 14 goals and 16 assists in all competitions, including 19 goal involvements in the league — a return that earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award.
He has already exceeded last season’s tally, recording 21 goal contributions so far, with his performances attracting growing interest from leading clubs, particularly within the Premier League.
One of the clubs looking to sign Rogers is Arsenal, according to talkSPORT, which claims that the Gunners are among several clubs showing ‘genuine’ interest in the versatile forward.
The report adds that the Premier League leaders are expected to sanction the departures of either Gabriel Martinelli or Leandro Trossard to make space for a new winger.
Audacious swoop
As such, Rogers has now been included on their shortlist of possible replacements, alongside Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and Paris Saint-Germain’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, according to the report.
In a boost to Arsenal, talkSPORT have revealed that the 23-year-old is likely to depart Villa Park at the end of the season, even if the Villains secure Champions League qualification, although they will have to battle with Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG in the race for the Englishman.
Mikel Arteta currently has Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze as attacking midfield options, while Kai Havertz has also occasionally been deployed there.
Ethan Nwaneri, on loan at Marseille, is also viewed as a viable option for the role, although he is behind the aforementioned duo in the pecking order.
However, rumours in recent weeks have been rife about Odegaard’s potential departure in the summer, which could pave the way for a replacement, with Rogers, who can operate on the flanks and in attacking midfield, now being targeted.
With five years remaining on his contract, Arsenal will need to submit a significant offer, as Villa are likely to demand a fee well above his £69m Transfermarkt valuation, especially with other big-money spenders also in the race.
