Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Barcelona’s Dani Olmo

By on April 4, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.

Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid, Martin Odegaard has established himself as an undisputed starter and has even been handed the responsibility of leading the squad.

However, he hasn’t been at his best this season, with persistent injury problems being one of the key reasons. In 27 appearances across all competitions, the 27-year-old has made seven goal contributions.

Eberechi Eze was purchased from Crystal Palace last summer to support the Norwegian. He initially struggled to find regular game time, but amid Odegaard’s absence, he has secured his place in Arteta’s starting line-up in recent months.

In 43 appearances across all competitions, the England international has scored nine goals and registered five assists this season.

Ethan Nwaneri is another option for Arsenal to deploy in the creative midfield position. However, he joined Olympique de Marseille on loan in January, having struggled to find regular game time during the first half of this term.

Despite already having enough firepower in the creative midfield position, Arsenal have seemingly started exploring options to refresh this area during the offseason.

Olmo to Arsenal

Fichajes state that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Olmo and have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential swoop.

However, purchasing the Spaniard won’t be straightforward for Arsenal, as Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are also in this race. Moreover, Saudi Arabian club, Al-Qadsiah, are interested in him.

Pep Guardiola likes his compatriot and has identified him as an ideal option to replace Bernardo Silva, who is set to leave for free this summer.

The Citizens have even launched a formal £76m proposal to finalise the operation, with the player’s existing deal set to run until 2030. He has a £439m release clause in his current contract, but Barcelona might be open to letting him leave for around £88m.

Olmo is a creative midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the flanks if needed. He is a technically gifted player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, Olmo has had fitness problems over the years, and Arsenal need to be careful about that before making any potential swoop for him.
