Arsenal plot swoop to sign Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray forward Victor Osimhen, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Although the 27-year-old helped Napoli win the Serie A title during the 2022/23 season, he left the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on a sour note after falling out with the club’s hierarchy.
The Nigerian international joined the Turkish giants on an initial loan deal last term before the deal became permanent ahead of this campaign. He made 44 goal contributions across all competitions last season and guided his team to win the Super Lig title.
This season, Osimhen has continued to showcase his productivity, scoring 18 goals and registering five assists in 27 appearances in all tournaments. Moreover, he has been leading his side to mount another title charge.
The forward even helped Cimbom beat Liverpool 1-0 by setting up the winner in the Champions League last-16 first leg in midweek.
Now, Fichajes state that although Arsenal reinforced the centre-forward position by purchasing Viktor Gyokeres last summer, they are planning to revamp the No.9 position during the offseason.
Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘seriously considering’ selling the Swedish international following his inconsistent performances this season. Moreover, Gabriel Jesus could also leave, having struggled with fitness problems in recent years.
Osimhen to Arsenal
Arsenal have identified Osimhen as an ‘ideal’ option, having been impressed by his recent impressive performances, and could make a concrete approach to buy him in the coming months.
However, the report claim that Galatasaray have no intention of letting him leave for anything less than £112m with his existing deal set to run until 2029. Arteta even believes the money demanded by the Turkish giants is justifiable, considering the quality of the player.
Osimhen is a 6ft 1in tall striker. He is quick, strong, good in the air, and possesses the poacher instinct inside the box. He is currently at the prime stage of his career and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure his service in the upcoming summer transfer window to strengthen the attacking department.
