Arsenal make approach to sign Rennes’ Jeremy Jacquet

Arsenal have reportedly made an approach to sign Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been very busy thus far this summer and have already signed Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, and Viktor Gyokeres, spending around £200m.
However, Mikel Arteta reportedly wants to add further depth to the attacking department, and they have been heavily linked with a move for Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze.
Now, on X, Romano says that despite already reinforcing the backline by signing Mosquera, Arsenal want a new defender and have identified Jacquet as a serious option.
The Gunners are lining up the 20-year-old as a potential replacement should Oleksandr Zinchenko or Jakub Kiwior, who have been linked with a move away, eventually leave before the end of this transfer window.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have already made an approach to get the deal done, but Rennes have no intention of parting ways with him, having recently extended his deal. If the North London club eventually fail to buy him in this window, they are even ready to secure his service next year.
Jacquet to Arsenal
Romano wrote:
“Understand Arsenal already made an approach for Jérémy Jacquet as new defender in case of exit for Zinchenko or Kiwior. Rennes consider the defender NOT for sale this summer, after extending his contract in May. AFC remain keen on Jacquet, also eventually for 2026.”
Jacquet has risen through Rennes’ youth system and spent the first half of last season on loan at Clermont Foot. However, he returned to Roazhon Park in January and displayed glimpses of his qualities in Ligue 1 last term.
He is a 6ft 2in tall right-footed centre-back. Therefore, it is a bit surprising to see that Arsenal are considering signing him to replace Kiwior or Zinchenko, who are left-sided defenders.
Having recently bought Mosquera, Arsenal don’t need a new right-footed centre-back. Therefore, they would be better off saving the money to reinforce the left flank.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure Jacquet to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this summer window.
