Arsenal interested in signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, as per Football London.
After failing to win the Premier League title in the last three consecutive campaigns, the Gunners have prioritised strengthening the attacking department this summer.
Mikel Arteta has signed Noni Madueke from Chelsea to add depth on the right flank, while Viktor Gyokeres has been signed to reinforce the centre-forward position.
Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were the two options they had for this position, but both players struggled with fitness problems last term. So, Arteta was left without a recognised No.9 for the second half of last season.
Moreover, the Spanish boss wants a new left winger as Gabriel Martinelli hasn’t been able to flourish in his career since enjoying a productive campaign a few years ago.
On the other hand, Leandro Trossard has turned 30 and has been linked with a move away from the club in this transfer window. A host of left-sided attackers have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, with Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo Goes among them.
Rogers to Arsenal
However, Football Insider state that Arsenal are also interested in Rogers and could make a move over the coming days. Aston Villa have no plans to let him go, but they face an FFP issue and may be forced to sell top players in the future to comply with the rules. Therefore, Arsenal might need to wait for another opportunity to buy him.
The 23-year-old is valued at around £48m by Transfermarkt and still has five years left in his current contract. So, Aston Villa are in no rush to sell him, and Arsenal will have to offer a lucrative proposal to persuade Unai Emery’s side to let him leave.
Rogers is a versatile player as he is a CAM by trait, but is also comfortable on the left flank. Emery used him on the right side last term, but he doesn’t showcase his best in this position.
The Englishman is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top; therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service before the end of this window.
