Arsenal confirm Christian Nørgaard signing from Brentford

By on July 10, 2025

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Christian Nørgaard from Brentford as they push ahead with their summer transfer business.

The experienced midfielder joins Arsenal for a fee of £10 million. That amount could rise to £12 million based on performance-related add-ons.

He has signed a two-year contract with an option to extend for another season. Nørgaard will wear the number 16 shirt at the Emirates Stadium.

The club believes the Dane brings important experience and leadership qualities. He is expected to offer depth and steel in midfield.

Nørgaard follows Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga in joining Arsenal this summer to become the third addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Experience and leadership boost for Arteta

Nørgaard, aged 31, spent six seasons at Brentford after joining from Fiorentina in 2019. He featured in 196 matches for the Bees in all competitions.

He played a key role in helping the club gain promotion to the Premier League. The midfielder was also important in keeping them up in later seasons.

His tenacity, work rate, and ability to break up play made him a fan favourite at the Gtech Community Stadium.

One of his standout moments came in the 2021/22 season. He scored in Brentford’s famous 2-0 win over Arsenal on the opening day.

That same season, he also found the net again against the Gunners in the reverse fixture.

Nørgaard became club captain at Brentford ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. He went on to enjoy his best goalscoring season.

He finished the campaign with six goals from midfield, showing his growing influence in the final third.

Arsenal view the signing as a smart addition. He adds depth and experience to a midfield group that includes younger players.

The Denmark international will also bring leadership to the dressing room, having captained Brentford during one of their most successful spells.

With Nørgaard now confirmed, the Gunners are expected to continue adding more names before the new season begins.

Arteta remains focused on building a squad that can challenge for silverware on all fronts.
