Arsenal still in negotiations to sign Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal are still in negotiations to sign RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko, as per German outlet Chemnitzer Morgenpost.
After finishing second in the last three Premier League seasons, the Gunners have prioritised purchasing a new prolific goalscorer this summer to close the gap with Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta has identified Viktor Gyokeres and Sesko as primary targets, and the North London club have been working on a deal for both of them. But it has been reported that they would go for only one of them, and they have recently stepped up their efforts to purchase the Sporting CP star.
Therefore, it was thought that Arsenal wouldn’t go for the Slovenian, but Chemnitzer Morgenpost state that Arteta’s side haven’t rejected a move to sign Sesko yet and remain in negotiations with Leipzig over this deal.
The German side are hoping to get more than £69m for the 22-year-old, having tied him down to a fresh term until 2029 last summer. Arsenal attempted to purchase him ahead of last season, but the player remained at Red Bull Arena and is ready to take the next step in his career in this window.
Arsenal have already spent around £70m to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard. Moreover, they are reportedly close to finalising a £69m deal to sign Gyokeres.
Sesko to Arsenal
On the other hand, Arteta also wants a new wide forward, and Noni Madueke of Chelsea is his preferred option. So, after agreeing on personal terms with him, Arsenal have submitted a formal proposal worth around £50m, including bonuses, to buy him.
However, the West London club want more than £50m in a fixed fee and are hoping to earn as much as Newcastle United are set to splash to secure Anthony Elanga’s service.
Additionally, Arsenal are keen on purchasing a new left-sided forward and have been linked with Rodrygo Goes, Anthony Gordon, and Eberechi Eze.
While most news reports suggest that Arsenal are now focussed on signing Gyokeres, it appears the Gunners may still not have given up their pursuit of Sesko, so it will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming days.
