Arsenal to be handed chance to sign Joao Palhinha
Arsenal are reportedly set to be handed the chance to sign Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha, as per Caught Offside.
After losing the Premier League title race to Manchester City in the last two seasons, the Gunners are set to be beaten by Liverpool in this race this campaign.
Therefore, it has been reported that the North London club are planning to reinforce several positions this summer to finally win the league, with signing a new striker as the priority.
Moreover, they want a wide forward and are willing to revamp the midfield department. Thomas Partey and Jorginho have entered the final few weeks of their current contracts and are highly likely to leave as free agents.
Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Now, Caught Offside claim that Arsenal are set to be handed an opportunity to sign Palhinha to reinforce the midfield.
Palhinha to Arsenal
Bayern Munich are ready to sell him despite signing him last summer and the player is keen on returning to the Premier League. So, his agent is set to offer him to different English clubs.
Apart from the Emirates club, Manchester United and Liverpool are likely to receive the chance to hire him, while West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Fulham could also be given the opportunity to secure his service.
Palhinha is quick across the ground, strong, and good in the air. He has proven his worth in the Premier League during his time with Fulham so he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him.
However, the Portuguese is a defensive midfielder, rather than a deep-lying playmaker. Mikel Arteta likes to deploy a technically gifted player at the base of the midfield and Palhinha isn’t that type of player.
Therefore, he wouldn’t be an ideal option for Arsenal to bolster the midfield. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club make a concrete approach to hire him if they eventually receive the chance to secure his service in the upcoming transfer window.
Meanwhile, following the Real Madrid encounter last night, Arsenal will face off against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on Sunday.
